Operating Instructions

Steps To Set Up Tool
1. Unpack tool and inspect for shipping damage.
2. Install Thickness Adjustor screw…rotating in a clockwise direction until it just touches the aluminum crossbar (being careful not to cross the threads).
3. Mount the tool on a bench or table of your choice using either mounting screws or c-clamps (make sure clamps don't interfere with the motion of the roller when the handles are depressed).
4. Remove plastic blade protector.

Steps To Prepare To Split Strings
1. Depress the handle to force the roller down away from the blade.
2. Insert end of string (3-4 inches) from beneath the back side out the front side and release the handle so the string becomes pressed between the blade and roller (making sure the smooth side of hide is always against roller surface).
3. You want to strip the first few inches of your string first, and then take it out and feed it into the splitter from the front side to finish the remainder of the string.
4. You will then split the rest of the string by gently and steadily pulling the string from the front side to the back side (exiting beneath the aluminum crossbar). The scrap portion being split peels up above the blade. For best results, guide the incoming string onto the roller by holding it with slight tension and down near the base of the front side of the splitter near the table or bench surface.
5. To set string thickness, turn the Adjustor Knob clockwise to increase thickness (thicker), or counter-clockwise to decrease thickness (thinner). Suggestion: practice on scrap string until you get the feel of using the tool.

Steps To Change Blades
Caution: Do Not remove or change the settings of the four screws on the ends. We have preset them to correctly position the blade holder and roller height.
1. Rotate the Thickness Adjustor knob in a clockwise position until it pushes the roller all the way down and stays there without springing back up. This leaves a big space between the blade and roller.
2. Loosen the two screws labeled (A) with the Allen wrench provided. Note: only loosen 2-3 turns, just enough to release the blade.
3. Using a pair of needle nosed pliers or something similar, pull the blade out and discard it.
4. Install the new blade in the reverse manner. Note: the metal clamp is slotted just enough so that when you push the new blade back into it, the back edge should bump the edge of the slot.
5. Re-tighten screws (A) making sure that the blade is bumping the back edge of the slot evenly. Note: if the blade holder was too open, the edge won't line up to the slot.
6. Turn the Thickness Adjustor counter-clockwise until it lets the roller all the way back up to the top position. Note: you will now have to re-adjust the thickness before resuming splitting by using a scrap string once again.
